Styling the Shade of the Sun

If you've seen my Instagram recently (if you don't follow me, you should @audrey_.16), you'd know how much I've been loving yellow. My obsession started with a long sleeve blouse, then a necktie, then another shirt. Now, I search for it in every store and take pictures with every cute thing sporting the colour! I sort of can't help it, I feel like I'm drawn to it, which is odd because I didn't even own it before this year.

I mean, can you truly deny how perfect this colour is?

If you still can, you're crazy because this colour is just like sunshine had a child.

I mean, it's technically the same picture but still!

Here's why it's totally the best, however: you can wear it in a billion different ways. There are always certain colours that, on most occasions, look best casually or dressed up. Red, for example, can easily look very Christmas-y and orange is normally associated with autumn or Halloween. But yellow always looks happy. It's a great summer colour because it's the shade of the sun, but it's also the colour the leaves turn in the fall. Flowers sprout with it in the spring and a nice, vivid pop is great during the winter months.

But of course, how do you style it without feeling like a little kid or, god forbid, looking tacky? My personal favourite piece of yellow I have in my own closet is my necktie. It feels a little like a flight attendant, however I also like to wear it in my hair. It adds that pop, but it's being toned down by the neutral colours I wear with it. I'm not a necessarily "crazy" person when it comes to styling colour, so I don't like to wear my tie with other colours, but if that's more your speed, go for it!

Of course, there's always the question of how you dress it up. One of my favourite ways I've seen it on a dress was a lace halter dress from Lulus. It's cute and still stays classy, while being outside the box at the same time. If you're not the type to wear dresses or if that feels a little too dressed up for the occasion, you can always find a blouse and pair it with skinny jeans or a skirt. In every picture above, I'm in one of my favourite pairs of skinny jeans. They're stretchy and grey and look amazing with any colour, especially yellow. I love block heels because they support your feet much more than pumps might. In many looks, I've done my favourite nude block-heels or my (now retired) brown booties with a one-inch block heel. You could always switch this out, but that's my personal preference.

How about casual? I love myself a good tee to tie up! That'd be my first way to wear it. Maybe with a white denim skirt, some ballet flats or sandals. Or maybe you just want to accessorize with it. Yellow sandals could be really cute! You could wear them to the beach or to get ice cream with the girls. Picturing it already? Me too!

You can wear yellow any way that you want. That's arguably its best trait. Some of my favourite places to find yellow or things to pair with it have been Loft, Anthropology, Madewell, and ASOS. Check them out! Pretty soon, you could be walking on sunshine!
